SECTION 10 - GIRLS HOCKEY PROGRAM

A. General Information

Girls use the same equipment as the boys and all the rules of play are the same with the exception of body checking. No body checking is allowed.

B. Games and Practices

The following are maximum games including tournaments for each age group and skill level. Additional games and tournaments outside of these guidelines must have approval of the DCYH board. Violations of these guidelines may result in suspension of the head coach upon review by the board.

  1. DCYH Girls U12 will have a District 8 League game schedule along with other scrimmages, invitational tournaments, and playoffs. There is no District 8 Leagues at the Girls U10 level, and there are no playoffs for the U10 level.
  2. A minimum practice to game ratio of 1:1 is required for all A and B levels and 2:1 for all C levels.
  3. Players can expect to skate an average of 3-4 days per week at the U12 level and 2-3 days per week at the U10 level during the season. This includes practices, games, scrimmages, and tournaments.
  4. Girls U10
    1. Maximum of 40 hours of ice.
    2. Maximum of 30 games.
    3. Maximum of 3 tournaments.
    4. DCYH pays for 1 home and 1 away tournaments.
  5. Girls U12
    1. Maximum of 55 hours of ice.
    2. Maximum of 35 games.
    3. Maximum of 4 tournaments.
    4. DCYH pays for 1 home and 2 away tournaments.
    5. DCYH will pay for District and Regional playoffs.

C. Travel Guidelines

  1. As a general rule, DCYH teams will play their league games, scrimmages, and invitational tournaments in the greater Minnesota/Twin City area.
  2. Recommended traveling distances for games and tournaments are 120 miles for Girls U10 and 160 miles for Girls U12.
  3. Anytime a team leaves the state to play a game they must inform the board of the date and place they are going to receive approval from District 8.

D. Playing Guidelines

DCYH's overall policy is that each team player should have approximately equal game playing time as measured over the entire season. This rule is subject to the exceptions below:

  1. General discipline for individual players who display attitude problems, who miss practices or games, or who are ill or injured are considered causes for exceptions to the equal ice policy. This is at the discretion of the coach.
  2. Players should be skated in normal rotation throughout every game, starting lines should be rotated for games, and goalies should either alternate games or split each game. Coaches at these levels, at their discretion, may deviate from the equal ice time rule by playing players out of rotation by using "power" units and the like. Game rotation with goalies will also be at the coaches discretion.
