SECTION 9 - TERMITE AND SUPERMITE PROGRAM

The main emphasis of the Termite and Supermite program is to develop proper skating techniques and the basics of specific hockey skills. It is intended to provide a recreational and instructional competition level where all players can participate equally to develop their skills and learn good sportsmanship. The Termite level includes 4, 5, and 6 year olds. The Supermite level is 7 and 8 year olds.

A. General Information

  1. The Termite and Supermite programs will be coordinated by the Mite Commissioner who will also serve as the formal liaison between the DCYH Board and the Four Seasons Mite Hockey Association (FSMHA).
  2. The Termite and Supermite players will be divided based on years played and age, with minor adjustments made for either the inexperienced skater or more advanced skater. These adjustments will be made at the coach’s discretion after evaluating all of the players. Parents will be notified of any movement of players between levels.
  3. The Advanced and Intermediate players will be divided to ensure that players of comparable ability participate at the appropriate competitive level to ensure maximum development and enjoyment for the player.
  4. Supermite will play approximately 15 games with the objective of having 2 practices for each game. Basic positional play is introduced at this level with emphasis on skating development. The rules of off sides, icing, and the two-line pass will be introduced. Coaches are expected to rotate players through all positions on a regular basis. Every player who is interested in playing goalie should be given the opportunity.
  5. No standings are kept at the Termite or Supermite levels.
  6. No slap shots or body checking is allowed.
